Weather and road closures updates from WCC

WEATHER AND ROAD CLOSURES UPDATE

There are a number of significant slips which are affecting traffic and pedestrian access around the city.

UPDATE #2 - 9am Sunday 21 August

The latest road closure, Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and status updates are:

  • Main Road Tawa closed between Victory and McLellan Street.

  • Laura Avenue in Brooklyn is closed.

  • Takarau Gorge Road between Johnsonville and Makara Beach is closed by slips and flooding.

  • Sutherland Crescent in Melrose is closed.

  • The Terrace between Ghuznee Street and Buller Street remains closed to traffic following the large slip there last week. Geotechnical engineers are waiting for dry weather before they make a call on the stability of the slip face.

  • Ngaio Gorge is now open with contra flow in place.

  • Chaytor Street and Birdwood Street in Karori are now open.

  • Woodhouse Avenue in Karori is now open.

  • Onslow Road in Khandallah is now open.

City Council staff and contractors are still working on about 130 live incidents around the city today as the wet weather and wind continues to cause problems with landslips, flooding and trees down. Crews are prioritising work and focusing on clearing slips from arterial routes – this means motorists and pedestrians need to take care because some smaller slips may not be cleared immediately. Road users are urged to drive and ride to the conditions especially in hillier parts of the city where more slips may come down over the next few days.

Some bus routes may be impacted by road closures, so visit Metlink for further information.
