Earthquake Safety

We have advocated and lobbied central and local government on behalf of inner city property owners who are impacted by the legislative changes since 2004 requiring the seismic strengthening of identified earthquake-prone buildings. A particular focus has been to highlight the financial burden that this imposes on private owners to achieve public good outcomes of public safety, heritage and economic resilience. This includes submissions to central and local government on legislative and policy changes, coordinating information, sharing meetings and developing proposals for solutions.

In 2020, Inner City Wellington worked on resources regarding seismic strengthening in the inner city, with a focus on apartments and multi-story buildings. This included case studies and seminars, as well as discussions with local organisations and Wellington City Council. Click below to learn more.
