Report: The State of Housing in Wellington City (best viewed in Microsoft Edge)
Improving housing outcomes to enhance the wellbeing of our communities is a priority for the Council, as reflected through our Housing Strategy and Housing Action Plan. The State of Housing project brings together trusted data from a variety of national and local sources to provide insights into the current state of housing in Wellington City.

  • This first edition of the State of Housing report presents curated insights into the Wellington City context, affordability, housing supply, and future housing demand in Wellington City. The full Infographic Report is available on the Wellington City Council website.

Six interactive reports accompany this overview and explore spatial patterns across Wellington City through maps presented at the Statistical Area 2 (SA2) geography. Spatial data is displayed as residential built up areas so that mostly empty rural areas do not visually dominate the maps. These reports can be accessed through the ‘Interactive reports’ tab.

This information can be used to support evidence-informed decisions about new housing supply and sustainable housing outcomes for the city
